Spain LOVES their Gin 🇪🇸
This may sound strange as most people think of the British when they think of Gin, and rightfully so. The Gin & Tonic was a drink originally created by the Brits to ward off Malaria in India. So how come a Gin Tonic is Spains National Drink?
Note: In Spain they drop the ‘&’ as they believe it is unnecessary, and that without, it is a much cleaner title for their drink!
The Spanish Gin Tonic is a drink thats origins are debated by numerous professionals. Most land on the fact that it is the most refreshing cocktail to be enjoyed in the heat of the Spanish sun and that it can be elevated to a higher level by the extra additions – is most of its attraction.
They do not simply enjoy a gin & tonic like most of us do, with a slice of cucumber or lime. 🥒
They elevate and emphasize the aromas and botanicals in each specific gin with the garnishes they use. Apparently in some bars overseas, they can take as long as 15 minutes to serve you your Gin Tonic, due to the specifics and detail that go into it!
They also make some excellent points, why would we serve such a fruit & herb forward drink in a tall skinny glass? It is like trapping the best bits in the glass. They believe that drinking a Gin Tonic is just like drinking a glass of fine wine. The Aroma is one of the major parts of the experience. So serving in a wine glass or bubble glass allows you to really breathe all of them in.
While this Gin Tonic does not take 15 minutes, it is still an experience in a glass and one that is enjoyed by anyone involved! The first time we hosted a party with a Spanish Gin Tonic bar it was a huge HIT. This bar consisted of 4 different types of gin 2 different types of tonic water and all the garnishes and botanicals we could think of and I have not seen a happier group of gin drinkers in all the land!
You need to make a Spanish Gin Tonic bar for your next party or social event, it will, for sure, be the talk of the town!
We recently took a tour of Farm. One in NYC – An Urban Hydroponic Farm, it was fascinating and we learnt a lot about edible flowers & micro greens. They serve some of the best restaurants here in NYC and you can tell why! We tasted around 15 varieties of greens & flowers all with such unique flavors and smells. We were also able to take some of these fresh, local flowers & greens home and they are ultimately what inspired us to get around to posting our Spanish Gin Tonic so THANK YOU to Farm One for the inspiration! We appreciate it! 💚
